UKRI’s £8m research fund aims to tackle plastic waste pollution

Funding body seeks proposals for development of ‘smarter’, recyclable plastics and greener production techniques

Researchers are being encouraged to submit proposals for projects that will “push the boundaries of plastic packaging” in an age of increasing awareness around environmental sustainability concerns.

Up to £8 million will be made available through two competitive funding pots launched by UK Research and Innovation, each with the aim of developing “smarter plastics” that will help the UK lead the way in combating global plastic waste.
