Business group calls on government to accelerate plans for US-style Advanced Research Projects Agency

Leading employers’ group, the Confederation of British Industry, has urged the government to prioritise skills, infrastructure and innovation as part of its efforts to boost private sector investment.

In a statement issued ahead of the budget on 11 March, the Confederation of British Industry said plans for a new £800 million US-style Advanced Research Projects Agency for “high-risk, high-payoff research” should be “accelerated to create a longer-term, high-risk approach to investment”.
