Government tries to calm fears over IP in US trade deal

Document setting out UK position says government recognises importance of supporting research and innovation

The UK government has sought to calm fears about the level of intellectual property protections in a potential trade deal with the US.

In a 180-page document setting out the UK’s negotiating position for talks, the government acknowledged that there was “concern about how we strike the right balance in the level of IP protections, particularly in the areas of pharmaceuticals and patents”.
