UK business innovation drops to almost ten-year low

The percentage of businesses investing in internal R&D is down, according to official data

The proportion of British businesses being innovative has fallen to its lowest since 2010, according to the latest UK Innovation survey.

Just 38 per cent of firms were “innovation active” in 2016-18. This is down from 49 per cent in 2014-16 and the lowest proportion since 2008-10, when it stood at 37 per cent, according to data released by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy yesterday.
