‘Major changes’ needed for Innovate UK to help levelling up

               

Study of collaborative innovation projects finds southeast dominates, with no strong impact on regional inequalities

An analysis of R&D collaborations funded by Innovate UK has not found any strong link to them ‘levelling up’ different regions of the UK in terms of their economic prosperity.

The academics behind the analysis said their results show there is a need for more R&D funding for collaborations to be directed outside of London and southeast England, in addition to other measures such as deepening University Enterprise Zones to boost university-industry collaborations in less productive regions.
