Culham campus to get fusion energy demonstration plant

Science minister welcomes “cutting-edge project” and launches separate experiment to create conditions necessary for fusion

The Canadian fusion energy company General Fusion has reached an agreement with the UK Atomic Energy Authority to build and operate a fusion demonstration plant at the Culham science and innovation campus in Oxfordshire.

The company hopes to use the plant to demonstrate its magnetised target fusion technology, which is different from the tokamak approach used in the Joint European Torus, also located on the campus.
