Independent report says long-term support is needed for UK public health genomics beyond the pandemic
A UK-wide genomics network has been praised for its key role in tracking variants of the Covid-19 virus, but once the pandemic is over its future impact hangs in the balance.
In April 2020, the Covid-19 Genomics UK (Cog-UK) consortium was awarded £20 million in public funding to track genetic changes in the Sars-CoV-2 virus and in the first half of 2021 was topped up with an additional £17m.
