Defence R&D centre to investigate use of data in AI

Consortium led by University of Exeter expected to create up to eight academic posts

A new university-led centre dedicated to defence R&D will examine problems related to the use of data for artificial intelligence applications.

Announced by the government’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory on 23 June, the Defence Data Research Centre will primarily investigate problems within a defence context, such as logistics support, object-tracking and data-wrangling.
