Scientific procedures involving living animals dropped to 2.76 million in 2022

The number of scientific procedures performed on live animals in Britain decreased by 10 per cent last year and is now at the lowest level since 2002, according to Home Office data.

A total of 2.76 million scientific procedures involving living animals were carried out in 2022, compared with 3.06 million in 2021, the department’s annual statistics show.
