Spinouts from public sector bodies are hindered by “too much” bureaucracy, report says

Spinouts from public sector research organisations in the UK are hindered by “too much” bureaucracy, according to an independent study commissioned by the UK government.

The report, commissioned by the Government Office for Technology Transfer and released on 16 April, identified “significant difficulties” for organisations in getting approval to establish a spinout from their parent government departments, leading to time delays “incompatible with the commercial pace needed in a new spinout”.
