UK to launch national semiconductor institute

Independent organisation will bring together government, universities and industry, science department says

The UK government is to launch an institute on semiconductors to grow the sector, which is one of five key technology focus areas and is being backed by £1 billion of dedicated funding.

The UK Semiconductor Institute was announced by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology on 20 May. According to Dsit, it will bring together the UK government, universities and industry in a “first” for the semiconductor sector.
