History journals refuse to comply with RCUK open-access rules

More than 20 UK history journals have jointly set out their position on open access publishing, refusing to accept several of Research Councils UK’s proposed rules.

In a statement on 10 December, the journal editors say they accept the proposal of gold open access in which an author or institution pays an article processing charge to make the paper available free. However, they say they will continue to publish articles from authors regardless of whether an APC is paid.
