Open-access life-sciences image repository launched

A consortium of institutions has launched an open-access repository where biological images from multiple laboratories can be readily shared.

Scientists from the University of Dundee, the European Bioinformatics Institute, the University of Bristol and the University of Cambridge and others have launched the prototype, EMBL-EBI announced on 13 June.

The library includes images from screening, very high resolution microscopy, time-lapse photography and digital pathology. Other forms of image data that researchers can access include experimental protocol metadata and data from observed effects in cells.
