Reuters spinout buys Publons peer-review firm

Publons, a website that rates researchers who undertake peer review, has been acquired by Clarivate Analytics, a Thomson Reuters spinout.

Publon recognises researchers through the number of papers they review as well as the quality of their reviews. These credits can subsequently be added to their CVs to demonstrate researchers’ contributions to the peer-review process.

The company was founded by physicist Andrew Preston and Daniel Johnston, a political scientist. On 2 June the pair announced that their company was being acquired by Clarivate Analytics, which provides data-driven research metrics. The Thomson Reuters spinout is behind services such as ScholarOne Manuscripts, a website that helps publishers manage the submission of papers, as well as their peer review and publication.
