Birkbeck, University of London, has released its academic publishing software as an open-source download.
Anyone can download and use the Janeway software, which includes a submission system and a peer-review function.
Developers at Birkbeck decided to develop their own platform after encountering limitations with other open journal systems, including complex coding that is difficult to maintain. Janeway uses the programming language Python and is intended to be easy to understand.
