Two publishers are taking legal action in the United States against the scientific networking website ResearchGate over allegations that its hosting of some published research papers breaches copyright laws.

Elsevier and the American Chemical Society filed a legal claim with the US District Court for the District of Maryland on 2 October.

The two publishers filed a claim against ResearchGate in Germany in October 2017 and that case is ongoing. When approached for comment, the publishers referred Research Fortnight to the Coalition for Responsible Sharing, of which they are members.
