Publishers vow to maintain pressure on ResearchGate

A group of publishers have said they will continue to press the academic social network ResearchGate to remove allegedly copyright-infringing papers from its website.

The Coalition for Responsible Sharing, which comprises 12 publishers, launched legal action against ResearchGate in October 2017, saying academic papers were being made publicly available on the website in breach of copyright. The publishers, which include Wiley and the BMJ, have said there is evidence that the website is reducing their revenues.

In an update on 9 April, the group said that an estimated 4 million articles hosted on ResearchGate have been shared in breach of copyright and said it would continue to issue take-down notices compelling the network to remove copyright-infringing publications.
