New model trialled for open-access monographs

Pilot scheme will make five monographs freely available once subscriptions meet a set target

A new collective purchasing model for open-access monographs will be trialled in a pilot scheme by higher education IT firm Jisc and academic publisher the Peter Lang Group.

As an alternative to the book processing charge model that is often used for open access in monographs, the Peter Lang Group will publish and sell a licence for a selected group of five monographs to institutions via Jisc’s subscription manager. The publisher will then make the ebooks freely available once a target revenue has been met.
