Challenges remain for open-access books despite policies to incentivise a shift in publishing
Advocates of a shift from traditional subscription publishing to open access have received some major boosts in the past year.
For UK researchers, perhaps the biggest news came when national funder UK Research and Innovation unveiled its latest publishing policy last August. UKRI chief executive Ottoline Leyser called it “an important step towards realising our vision of a more open and transparent research culture” in the UK.
