MPs signal need for evidence-based drugs policy

Seven MPS from all parties have so far signed an Early Day Motion demanding a review of government policy on drugs.

Tabled by Tom Brake (Lib Dem, Carshalton and Wallington), the motion states that “This House notes the serious harm caused by drugs; recognises the need for evidence-based policy making with a clear focus on prevention and harm-reduction; and calls on the Government to establish an independent panel tasked with carrying out an impact assessment of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, reviewing the approach adopted by other countries, and making recommendations for reform.”
