Labour’s shadow business secretary Chuka Umunna claims he has full support from the leaders of his party in developing ideas for a “modern industrial strategy”, unlike business secretary Vince Cable.
Speaking in a debate following his speech at Labour’s conference in Manchester on 1 October, Umunna argued an industrial strategy is not only the responsibility of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. He added that Cable’s industrial strategy is doomed as it lacks “buy in” from the Treasury and from No 10.
