Government offers loans for mature students

Students aged 24 and over will be offered loans to cover the cost of tuition fees at further education institutions, John Hayes, junior minister at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, told MPs on 12 July.

In a written ministerial statement, Hayes said the new arrangements would take effect in the 2013-14 academic year. The regulations are made under the same powers as the Education (Student Support) Regulations, which underpin the higher education student support system, he said.
