Scrapping census would hit social science, say MPs

Social science research would be damaged by a decision to discontinue the census, a committee of MPs has warned the UK government.

The census is a rich source of data for longitudinal research studies and is relied on by researchers unable to fund such extensive studies, says a report by the Commons Science and Technology Committee, published on 21 September.
