Science and universities minister David Willetts has said the Natural Environment Research Council’s proposed merger of the British Antarctic Survey and the National Oceanography Centre will not threaten UK scientific excellence in Antarctica.
“Any changes would have no effect on the UK’s commitment to scientific excellence in Antarctica nor on the existing footprint of scientific bases and research ships,” Willetts said in parliamentary statement.
