Peers slam UK government over student visas

Members of the House of Lords have lined up to criticise the government saying its immigration policy is putting a brake on the numbers of students coming to the UK.

“Some universities have told me that they found that last September the number of postgraduate applicants who had even paid deposits and then declined to come had increased,” said Conservative peer and former science minister John MacGregor, introducing a debate in the House of Lords on 31 January.
