Scotland spends steady percentage of GDP on R&D

Scotland’s chief statistician has released figures on gross expenditure on R&D (GERD) for 2011, showing that Scotland spent 1.56 per cent of its GDP, or £1.934 billion, on R&D.

The proportion of GDP spent on R&D has barely changed since 2008, when it stood at 1.55 per cent of GDP. GERD in Scotland in 2011 was 7.1 per cent of the UK total.
