Statutory powers needed to monitor forensic science

Regulations governing the practice of forensic science need a statutory underpinning, the discipline’s regulator Andrew Rennison has told the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee.

Giving evidence on 6 March, Rennison said he had achieved all he could through a voluntary basis, and that there needed to be greater regulation of the field, particularly in times of austerity, to “protect the integrity of science”.
