The Brexit vote demonstrates that a renewed effort is needed to reach non-scientists, the BSA has conceded.
It asked 2,000 people how they voted in the EU referendum, and whether they had a science-related job or were studying science. Respondents were also asked to describe their level of engagement with science, culture and arts. The results were presented at an event on 1 June.
According to the results, people engaged with science were more likely to vote than the general public and were also more likely to vote for the UK to remain in the EU.
