Former business secretary Vince Cable will be a candidate in the Liberal Democrat's leadership contest, in a remarkable turnaround in the political fortunes of the former business secretary.
Following the 8 June general election—when Cable regained the parliamentary seat in Twickenham that he lost in 2015—it had been widely rumoured that he intended to run for leadership.
In a blogpost published by the Liberal Democrat Voice website on 20 June, Cable said that as a former business secretary during the coalition government he could offer “energy, dedication, drive and experience”.
