‘Red Tory’ think tank ResPublica has challenged foreign secretary Boris Johnson to take more control of the UK’s diplomatic agenda.
In a report published on 12 July ResPublica said the UK government needs to review its work in international education and culture to “consolidate” its influence while meeting its humanitarian goals.
ResPublica’s founder, Phillip Blond, is the architect of the Red Toryism concept, which has found a receptive audience in Downing Street. It is a form of conservatism that is more comfortable with a greater role for the state in social and economic policy, especially in relation to promoting equality and poverty reduction.
