Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has pledged to “build an education system from the cradle to the grave that empowers people and doesn’t shackle them with debt” if his party is elected to power.
The pledge was made in his speech on the final day of Labour’s annual conference in Brighton on 27 September.
Corbyn said that the party is committed to lifelong learning. “Our national education service will be run on clear principles: universal, free and empowering,” he said. Nobody should be held back from learning because of costs, he added.
