Climate change advice ‘under threat’, report finds

The UK government’s main source of advice on climate change could be threatened by a lack of support, researchers have warned.

The future work of the Committee on Climate Change could be undermined by a loss of funding and delays in recruiting experts, according to a report published by the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment and the Economic and Social Research Council’s Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy.

“The basis of the Committee on Climate Change’s success is a careful combination of rigorous analysis and extensive stakeholder engagement, including with parliament,” authors Alina Averchenkova, Sam Fankhauser and Jared Finnegan said in the report.
