Javid hints at no preferential access for EU citizens after Brexit

Migrants from the European Union should not find it easier to obtain a visa to work in the UK after Brexit than those from outside the bloc, the home secretary Sajid Javid has said.

Speaking at a fringe event on the second day of the Conservative Party conference, Javid said the UK should put in place an immigration system that allows it to recruit the most talented people from all over the world, without prioritising EU citizens.

“If we want engineers, it doesn’t matter whether that engineer comes from India, Australia or France. What we want is the very best to come to Britain and we shouldn’t have a system that favours one nation or one group of nations over others,” he said.
