The Care Quality Commission, the regulator of health and adult social care services in England, is set to include research-related questions in its inspection framework.
The changes are part of a joint effort between the National Institute for Health Research, the CQC, the Health Research Authority and the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency to help recognise the role of research in patient care.
The additional questions aim to determine how well an NHS trust integrates research into its corporate strategy, planning and how well research opportunities are communicated to patients.
