NIHR to cut Research Capability Funding

The National Institute for Health Research has unveiled plans to reallocate funds from its Research Capability Funding scheme towards research on mental health and multimorbidity, among other areas.

Research Capability Funding is allocated to NHS organisations involved in research in proportion to the total income they receive from the NIHR and the number of NIHR senior investigators they employ. NIHR clinical research networks also receive RCF funding.

On 21 November, the NIHR announced that the annual budget of RCF will be gradually reduced from 2019-20 onwards.
