Skidmore responds to concerns that funding review could have unintended consequences for research
Science minister Chris Skidmore has said the government will examine the potential impacts of the Augar review on overall university funding.
He was responding to a House of Lords Science and Technology Committee report on science funding in universities. Peers warned that implementing Philip Augar’s recommendation to cut the maximum annual tuition fee for home students from £9,250 to £7,500 could have “significant unintended consequences” for research activity, which is often subsidised by fee income.
