Co-author of the Smith-Reid report fears research could be sidelined in replacement for EU structural funds
There is a risk that research could “disappear” from the proposed UK Shared Prosperity Fund designed to replace European Union structural funds after Brexit, policy expert Graeme Reid has warned.
Researchers are hoping the fund will support R&D capacity-building after the UK leaves the EU, compensating for the loss of benefits that the sector gains from EU structural funds. These are expected to have provided £8.4 billion to the UK between 2014 and 2020.
