The Francis Crick Institute has warned that the government’s post-Brexit visa system could threaten the status of its laboratory technicians.
Speaking at the launch of an exhibition celebrating the scientific contributions of technical staff on 22 February, the institute’s director Paul Nurse said the proposed immigration system puts the “backbone” of research at risk.
His comments coincide with a government consultation on the proposed £30,000 salary threshold for skilled migrants as part of a post-Brexit immigration system that offers no preference for migrants from the European Economic Area.
