England sees record number of clinical study participants

The National Institute for Health Research has seen a nearly 20 per cent increase in the number of people taking part in clinical research in England over the past year.

A total of 870,250 people were involved in clinical studies in England in the 2018-19 financial year—almost 145,000 more than the year before, according to figures released by the NIHR on 20 May.

If the number of participants continues to rise at the same rate next year, the NHS’s goal of having 1 million people take part in clinical research by 2023-24 would be met four years early.
