The universities and science minister talks Brexit, Augar, and earning £10,000 a year as a researcher in Bristol

Since Chris Skidmore became universities and science minister in December, there has been an element of “good cop, bad cop” going on at the Department for Education.

While education secretary Damian Hinds has been keen to highlight what he sees as higher education’s problems—grade inflation, “poor value” degrees and unconditional offers—Skidmore has struck a far more conciliatory tone.
