Researchers at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital in London have unseated their colleagues in Newcastle to claim top spot in the ranking of NHS trusts’ research performance.

Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has topped the list for the number of clinical trials supported for the past seven years.

But data released on 2 July show that Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust supported 567 clinical research studies in 2018-19, an increase of 6.4 per cent on the previous year.
