Scotland and Wales unhappy with Brexit funding plans

The financial arrangements in place to deal with Brexit are “not fit for purpose”, the Scottish and Welsh finance ministers have warned.

In a joint statement published on 29 August, Scottish finance secretary Derek Mackay and his Welsh counterpart Rebecca Evans said the nations did not have the necessary financial arrangements to deal with the economic consequences of Brexit.

“Wales currently stands to lose out on hundreds of millions of pounds in European Union structural funds and we have not been given any guarantees from the UK government on this funding, which is vital for research and innovation in Wales,” a Welsh government spokesperson told Research Professional News.
