The United States has stretched its lead over the UK at the top of a league table of nations that have educated the most foreign leaders—amid ongoing concerns that international students are being deterred from coming to Britain.
Out of 337 world leaders in 2019, 59 in 53 countries were educated in the UK, according to the annual ranking published by the Higher Education Policy Institute on 5 September.
The US overtook the UK in 2018 and, although the number for the UK has increased by two since then, the US has retained top spot as its number has increased by four to 62 leaders in 55 countries.
