Universities voice fears over latest no-deal immigration plans

The UK government’s immigration plans in the event of a no-deal Brexit will affect universities’ ability to recruit talented students and staff from across the European Union, the Russell Group has warned.

The immigration plans unveiled on 4 September have immediately come under fire from the group of research-intensive universities.

The plans say that in the case of a no-deal Brexit, researchers and students from the European Economic Area and Switzerland will be able to obtain temporary immigration status lasting three years. This option will be available until the end of 2020.
