Ambitious pledges made since the election tee off crucial 12 months

The Conservatives have hinted at major changes for research over the year ahead, following Boris Johnson’s overwhelming victory in December’s general election and ahead of his new government’s first budget.

In his New Year’s message, Johnson pledged to “transform this country’s approach to science and research”. He said he wanted the UK to be “an engine for the ideas of the future”.
