Science minister announces plans for an R&D advisory council in the North and QR uplift

In a major speech, the science minister has promised action to “level up” research funding across the UK as new data reveal stark regional imbalances.

Speaking at the opening of the Durham University Teaching and Learning Centre on 24 January, Chris Skidmore said the so-called ‘Golden Triangle’ of Cambridge, Oxford and London has continued to “benefit disproportionately from public investment, compared with other regions of the UK”.
