UK funder, which administers much of Newton Fund and GCRF, expects less money for schemes
A senior member of UK Research and Innovation’s international development team has said it is “inevitable” that there will be less money for research funded by the aid budget.
In the recent spending review, the government announced that aid spending would fall from 0.7 per cent of gross national income to 0.5 per cent, leading to fears over the knock-on impact on research. Both the £1.5 billion Global Challenges Research Fund and the £735 million Newton Fund come under the aid budget.
