£1.2bn government investment in weather supercomputer

The powerful supercomputer will help predict severe weather and the impacts of climate change

The UK government has confirmed a ten-year £1.2 billion investment in a powerful new supercomputer to predict severe weather and the impacts of climate change.

Data from the supercomputer will be used to help predict storms, select the most suitable locations for flood defences and predict changes to the global climate, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy said on 17 February.
