Government says it will consider ‘standard third-country participation’ in certain European Union programmes

The UK is still seeking full association with Horizon Europe, despite a government statement saying it will consider “standard third-country participation” in certain European Union programmes after Brexit, Research Professional News understands.

Third-countries—those outside the EU and lacking formal agreements—have only very limited access to research funding via the current research programme, Horizon 2020. It is likely the successor Horizon Europe will have rules allowing third countries to negotiate ‘association’ to access more of the scheme in return for paying in.
