‘At least £2bn extra’ needed for research in 2020 budget

All eyes will be on scale of investment promised for UK research, experts say

Serious reassurances must be made to UK researchers over the amount of funding that will be made available to them post-Brexit and over the coming years, sector leaders have urged ahead of the government’s first budget statement since taking office.

Global concerns over a sudden economic downturn caused by the coronavirus outbreak on top of a recent cabinet reshuffle means much of the 11 March budget’s content will be drawn up with possible last-minute amendments.
